Bike part shop in Lhasa, Tibet, opened by a HKer and a Thai
Imagine you are cycling from Chengdu to Kathmandu, struck in Lhasa and find that you don't have enough spare parts, what can you do? Either Chengdu or Kathmandu are way too far, but there's a simple solution now!
We are going to open a cafe, serving simple food and drinks (bigger portions for cyclists for sure!), cycling is what we love and that's why we will open a small section for bike parts too, we won't sell the whole bicycle, but we will help you to fix the bike and get some imported parts that you can never find in all other bike shops in Lhasa (not even at the Cyclist Bar inside the Dongcuo Youth Hostel), we will have many familiar parts like Shimano rear deraileur (XT, LX, Deore), Shimano chain HG93, HG73, HG53, Spokes (DT Swiss compression & evolution), Koolstop brake pads, Blackburn mountain mirror, a few selection of Cateye cyclocomputers, etc. And most important, deodorant and antiperspirant. As we are not a bicycle shop, we will only buy some of the most requested spare parts, so far we have listed 30 something items, tell us what you think we should have and we will put it into our shopping list.
The shop is opened by a Hong Konger and a Thai, we know how to fix your bike, we can speak fluent Thai, fluent English, perfect Cantonese and fluent Mandarin, good Vietnamese and some Japanese.
Our shop will be opened in April this year (hopefully) and we are busy preparing it now. We will give you more information later!
The shop's name is SPINN CAFE, it's double N. The place is near the Jokhang Temple and the Snowland Restaurant.

Best of luck with the cafe, Pazu, i can see you being the #1 port of call for all cyclists. Hope you have a good stock of beer to go with the Shimano :-)
Pazu,I hope to be in Lhasa later this year, probably September. I'll look out for the Spinn Cafe. It's good to see you're selling spokes, I think I'm right in saying you could buy just one size of spoke, If you bought packets of the largest spoke then used a spoke tap you could run a thread down the spoke, if you cut off the excess you'd be left with a perfect size. This way you'd only need to have in stock one size. It takes a bit longer but it's my guess you'll only be selling one or two at a time. Pretty handy if you are just starting up in business and your clientelle won't mind if there's nowhere else to go.
Good luck with the new venture, Pazu and friend!
HebairtGood luck with your venture in Lhasa, friends. Hey I have some pictures of you
on my Flickr pages - remember meeting me and Dom near the top of a pass west of baxoi this last Nov.?
rainboyI had a lot of trouble locating a quality water bottle holder in Lhasa. Good luck pazu.
Good Luck with the new venture Pazu,If I make it to Beijing this summer on my bike I hope to take the train up to Lhasa in August to rekindle memories of "Seven Years in Tibet" by Heinrich Harrar (sp?) which I read as a ten year old, I'm now 63!Hope to visit you then.Neil
tracksterman_returnsA couple of Shimano freehubs? SRAM chains are better than Shimano (no tools needed to break them), and a few of their Powerlinks might be handy too. I wouldn't stock chains without new cassettes and even chainrings to go with them. Inner/outer cables.
sudongpoPerhaps a location in Kashgar?racksrimstires/tubesportable pumpcablesnuts, bolts, washersmake sure you have a truing stand in your shopSee you in July
roblilwallSounds like a great idea - well done.I just got to Lhasa yesterday (along Yunnan Highway)- bike in a sorry state and i badly need some repairs doing... I know you said you are not opening until April, but if you happen to be in town already, please contact me. Otherwise, if anyone else can recommend the best bikeshop in town (for replacing spokes etc) please do let me know.
